I'm Dr Chiho Song (sometimes written Chi Ho Song, or Chi Song) — an NHS doctor in oral & maxillofacial surgery at Royal Surrey, the founder of Spheno Labs, and a contracted Clinical Safety Officer for digital health teams heading for NHS go-live.

I trained as a doctor and rotated through general surgery, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, acute medicine, ENT, OMFS and general practice across Plymouth, the Royal Free and Royal Surrey. The thread through all of it has been the front door: how patients get into the right pathway quickly — and how they fall through the cracks.
In late 2025 I started taking contracted Clinical Safety Officer work for digital health startups, preparing DCB 0129 and 0160 safety cases for go-live. I learned the system from the inside.
In May 2026 I incorporated Spheno Labs Ltd to put what I had built into the world. OralPath came first, MaxScribe second — and the ten-app Sphenoid OS suite is built, with nine apps in clinical validation.
Where I've been.
Building Sphenoid OS — clinician-in-the-loop AI for dentistry, OMFS and endoscopic specialties. The ten-app suite includes OralPath, MaxScribe, AeroPath and FlapObs; all ten are built, with nine in clinical validation.
CSO for digital health and SaMD products. DCB 0129 and 0160 safety case preparation, Clinical Risk Management File, hazard log, residual risk review, go-live release memos, post-market surveillance.
Trauma and elective maxillofacial care, dentoalveolar surgery, fracture pathways. On-call cover, MDT handover, outpatient clinics, ward management.

What I sign off — and what that means.
As a contracted Clinical Safety Officer, the thing I formally sign off is the clinical safety case for a digital health product under DCB 0129 and DCB 0160 — the accountable statement that residual clinical risk is acceptable before a system goes live in the NHS. That is a clinical-safety judgement about software, not a sign-off of any surgical specialty.
My clinical background is what makes that judgement credible: hands-on experience across oral & maxillofacial surgery, trauma and ENT means I understand the real workflows a product has to be safe inside. The clinical experience informs the safety review; the formal sign-off is the safety case itself.
